Venla Ilona Blom is a Finnish vocal artist, composer and educator. She has a strong musical education with university degrees in Vocal Pedagogy, Performance and Global Music Creation (The Royal Academy of Music, Denmark and Sibelius-Academy, Finland.) She has been working as a professional musician since 2007 and has been creating several successful projects both in Finland and abroad. Her educational background is in jazz and traditional Nordic music but she is also trained as a classical singer. Since 2011 she has also worked intensively with vocal percussions and beatboxing and is currently researching how to integrate modern beatboxing with vocal effects deriving from traditional singing styles and rhythms from around the world. She is working actively with musicians representing different traditions and finding her artistic and educational passion in cultural diversity.
Since 2012 Ms. Blom has been working with a Finnish vocal group “Tuuletar”. Their highly original music earned them a real breakthrough in 2015 and since then they have been performing all over the world with raging reviews. Their debut album ”Tules Maas Vedes Taivaal” (Bafe’s Factory 2016) hit the world music radio charts globally and in February 2017 they became the first a cappella group ever to win a Finnish Music Award (Best Ethno Album).
